When is a Gate not a gate?

What have been the former names of this famous city?

How did Clifford's Tower lose its roof?

When and why did York expand outside the limits of the City walls?

York has a rich history spanning back almost 2000 years. Much of this history is buried below layers of soil, built up over time, only to be glimpsed at during an archaeological excavation.

These are just a few of the questions that can be answered when you join PastSearch on a Walking Tour, or ask for an Illustrated Talk to be held at your venue, taking you on a journey through York’s social history, looking at the archaeological evidence and the buildings which still stand today.

Hi, I’m Karen Adams, a freelance archaeologist and researcher, I have worked in the Yorkshire and Humber region for over 20 years.

It is this experience and interest in the heritage of Yorkshire which forms the basis of PastSearch’s tours, talks and workshops.

Please take a look at the pages on this site, and call me to find out how PastSearch can help you on your search of the past.
